Smaller government: Would there be room for speechwriters?
September 20, 2011
Lots of speechwriters want to shrink the government, but few suggest cutting governmental speechwriters.
A conservative blogger proposes just such a notion, however. After noting with surprise that the head of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission has a speechwriter, the unnamed blogger at the Future of Capitali$m blog proposes a bill that would forbid โany executive branch official below Cabinet secretary rankโ from having a speechwriter: โNothing against speechwritersโI have known some hardworking and talented onesโbut, like everything else in Washington, they have a way of expanding at taxpayer expense โฆ.โ
Small government scribes, big-government scribes: How would you defend the speechwriter job at the CFTC if it came under attack by hack-happy lawmakers?
