Women in Speechwriting (Part Two)

Hillary Clinton ran her new book manuscript past her old speechwriter Lissa Muscatine, and held her breath.

The Washington Post has a piece on longtime Hillary Clinton speechwriter Lissa Muscatine, who as co-owner of the Washington bookstore Politics & Prose, has been helping Clinton promote her new book, Hard Choices.

Muscatine helped her edit the book too. Though Clinton reportedly wrote most of the 656-pager herself, she sent the final manuscript to her old scribe for reassurance. “I did hold my breath that entire weekend,” Clinton told the Post. Muscatine, she said, could be “gently but clearly critical.”

(Muscatine’s reaction to Hard Choices was mostly positive, though she did make some suggestions.)
