The nerve of that young man!

There’s a nice piece in the Boston Globe about Joe Resnek, a 23-year-old speechwriter with a hard-knocks background who has talked himself into a post in the Obama administration. But he didn’t spend all his chutzpah getting there.

When Alan Solomont, U.S. Ambassador to Spain, told the young scribe he wanted for a commencement speech to share lessons he learned from “The Wizard of Oz,” Resnek recalls, “I was literally scratching my forehead. I’m going to write a speech about ‘The Wizard of Oz’?”

“Joe squashed that idea at the beginning,” Solomont told the Globe. Resnek suggested Solomont use the speech to say something more personal, which he did.

Stay strong, young man.
