“Prime Minister’s Larynx” talks back

David Cameron's longtime speechwriter quit a month ago, and now she's urging her old boss to reform his party.

Here in the halls of the Professional Speechwriters Association, we cheer when speechwriters use their credibility … to influence the public debate, as British prime minister David Cameron’s ex-speechwriter Clare Foges attempted to do with a Times of London column urging her old boss to take specific actions to reform his own party. Foges, so closely identified with Cameron’s rhetoric over the last six years that she was widely called “the Prime Minister’s Larynx,” left after Cameron’s reelection a month ago. —DM
