Pioneering woman speechwriter writes memoir
January 31, 2012
The first woman speechwriter at G.E. has a book out, That’s All She Wrote.
A divorced mother of three in 1973, Joan A’Hearn was hired to write for various execs at the Schenectady, N.Y. giant.
Alternately accused of trying to sleep her way to the top and losing her femininity, A’Hearn told the Glens Falls, N.Y. Post Star, “It wasn’t a very glamorous job, let’s put it that way. It was a lot of traveling, a lot of living out of suitcases. If people thought this was a great job for a woman to have, well, they got the wrong picture.”
