Conservative speechwriter Joe Shattan is dead

"Profoundly civlized man" wrote for various Republican officials.

Conservative speechwriter Joe Shattan died last Saturday, and his friend Roger Kaplan has a nice tribute to him in The Spectator. Shattan wrote for Jeanne Kirkpatrick at the U.N., Elliot Abrams at the State Department, and Vice Presidents Quayle and Cheney and President George W. Bush. Kaplan calls Shattan “a profoundly civilized man in a world gone horribly vulgar.”
