Oh My Gosh, This Is Incredible!

"I've always believed that we'd be doing it, but to actually be doing itโ€”it's just surreal."

Not all leadership communication emanates from stages.

โ€œOh my gosh, this is incredible!โ€ GM CEO Mary Barra exclaims as she climbs into the backseat of an autonomous vehicle for the first time, in a company-produced video last week and published on CNBC.

โ€œI always believed weโ€™d be doing it,โ€ she says as the car pulls away, โ€œbut to actually be doing itโ€”itโ€™s just surreal.โ€

Mid-ride, she tells her co-passenger Kyle Vogt, founder and interim CEO of GMโ€™s autonomous vehicle subsidiary Cruise: โ€œYou know, a lot of people have asked me, โ€˜Well, how are you going to get people to use it?โ€™ Well itโ€™s like, okay, we were in the vehicle for five minutes, and the trust is there. I really think that the apprehension that some people think they have is going to dissipate extremely quickly when they get the experience.โ€

Barra says, โ€œItโ€™s too bad we have to wear masks, though, โ€˜cause I canโ€™t stop smiling.โ€
