The Carter Library has released an exit interview, with Carter speechwriter Caryl Connor.

She’s a health-hating, chain-smoking straight talker.

Here she is, talking about ceremonial speeches: “Oh, yeah. … That is part of what is considered ‘the everyday shit.’ There are 3, 4, or 5 of those things a week. Then there are also what Jim Fallows so endearingly calls ‘the croakers’ [obituary statements] …”
