In a blog comment, communication commentator Ike Pigott offered a tactic for dealing with executives who reject your advice about the importance of storytelling.

โ€œYouโ€™re right, โ€˜storyโ€™ doesnโ€™t sound important enough for an executive to worry about,โ€ Pigott wrote, โ€œbut you can scare the bejeezus out of them by pointing out how their inaction is โ€˜ceding the narrative.'โ€

That advice sounds well-seasoned.
