Speechwriter J.F. McKenna tells Vital Speeches that the best advice he ever got was just about the best advice any writer could ever get.

It came from his first editor, a Russ Faist, when McKenna was a rookie reporer. “Quoting legendary Cleveland News reporter Randall Brown, Faist would look over my shoulder and say, ‘Get it right. Write it tight. And make it march.”
