Why would a leftist scribe speeches for a right-wing president?

For power, says Marie De Gandt, who has published a memoir of her years writing for French president Nicolas Sarkozy.

“What is power?” she asks Atlantic.com reporter Cécil Alduy rhetorically. “Power is the place where the world can be transformed into something else. The place where writing truly becomes action.”

The memoir is called Sous la Plume (Under the Pen).
