Like most stories about speechwriters, the story about what Melania Trump's scribe got paid does us no favors.

Did you read where speechwriter Meredith McIver got paid $356.01 for her work on Melania Trump’s speech at the Republican National Convention? In speechwriting as in life, you get what you pay for.

Just one more example of the PR perils of speechwriters in the news—so prevalent in this election year. 

“I like to say that our job is the opposite of that awful thing my dad used to say,” says speechwriting teacher Eric Schnure. “Children should be seen and not heard. Speechwriters should be heard and not seen.” —DM
