If the PSA were the NRA …

... speakers would think twice before throwing their speechwriters under the bus.

Sometimes I fantasize that the Professional Speechwriters Association will become a powerful lobbying arm, like the National Rifle Association.

We’d be quoted in Associated Press stories like,

“The PSA came down hard on Philippines President Benigno Acquino III, after he publicly chided his speechwriters for their ‘inefficiency,’ at the outset of a May 13 speech this week in Manila. ‘Calling out one’s speechwriter is obvious poor form,’ said PSA executive director David Murray, adding, ‘I look forward to the day when a speaker elicits a standing ovation and, when the cheering dies down, publicly thanks his speechwriter for having provided the rousing line.’”
