Google and interns don’t mix: The bigger implications of Ann Curry’s commencement gaffe

Surely by now you’ve heard about the Ann Curry commencement speech in which she listed famous alumni of the wrong Wheaton College.

Groveled she, “I am mortified by my mistake, and can only hope the purity of my motive, to find a way to connect with the graduates and to encourage them to a life of service, will allow you to forgive me.”

Pure conventionality, perhaps.

But speechwriter Henry Ehrlich points to Curry’s gaffe as a symptom of larger diseases: “the intern economy,” and “the Googlification of the graduation speech.”
