A play about a speech

“Checkers” is the name of a new play about Richard Nixon’s famous 1952 televised speech.

Writing in Vanity Fair, former President Carter scribe James Fallows pegs the speech (and thus the play) as important because it marks the moment, in 1952, when “modern televised politics began.”

The play runs through Dec. 2 at New York’s Vinyard Theater.
