Irish Taoiseach taps learned scribe

New Irish Taoiseach Leo Varadkar is hiring a speechwriter from the old school—Dublin’s Trinity College, in fact, where Patrick Geoghegan is professor of modern Irish history.

According to his Trinity biography, Geoghegan’s latest work examines “how Edmund Burke both succeeded and failed in using oratory to change the nature of imperial debate in the 18th century.” Geoghegan is currently on sabbatical from Trinity.

A speechwriting sabbatical, it would seem.
