Yes, “I Have a Dream”

Yes, MLK’s “I Have a Dream” speech is cited so much we think we’ve seen it a thousand times. But when was the last time you’ve watched it all the way through.

The essayist Ian Frazier says he regularly watches the “I Have a Dream” not for the speech but for the crowd, which looks to him like a crowded driving range, where one ball lands on another and that ball hits another and those two balls hit three other balls, and a chain reaction takes place.

Frazier says it reminds him of how communication actually, occasionally, works.

So watch the speech again, and see if one of those balls hits you.
