A great technique for speech openings: Connect seemingly bizarre current events to similar events in history.

For example, we all know about the JetBlue flight attendant who’d had enough.

But what about the story of the Surface Transportation Corporation bus driver who busted out of his New York City route and took his mo-chine to Florida, in 1947?

“This New York traffic gets to you,” he said. “It’s like driving in a squirrel cage.”
