You have to love the “hour.” The comic Phyllis Diller died this week. In her retirement she told an interviewer what she missed about the stage:
“I don’t miss the travel. I miss the laughter. I do miss the actual hour. I don’t want to sound like I’m on dope, but that hour is a high. It’s as good as you can feel. A wonderful, wonderful happiness, and great power.”
Speechwriters, seek speakers who feel that way about being on the stage.
